As refrigerator technology evolves, the user experience has become more of a joy. Now, freezers are easy to organize, craft ice can be an everyday staple, and having extra storage space—for anything from an ice cream cake to champagne—has become commonplace.

That last luxury, also known as a flex drawer, is getting more popular in modern fridges. So if you're getting ready to invest in a new refrigerator, you should definitely put that feature on your wishlist—especially if you consider yourself a frequent entertainer. Here's why.

What is a refrigerator flex drawer?

Flex drawers offer extra fridge storage for anything from beverages to overflowing frozen food.

Often stored between the fridge and bottom-freezer drawer, a refrigerator flex drawer is designed to conveniently shift temperatures and act as an overflow space for either refrigerated or frozen foods. It's a convenient way to stay organized and optimize your refrigerator space, which is especially great for large families or frequent entertainers.

Some flex drawers are designed to act as a beverage center, making it easy to store wine bottles, beer cans, and seltzers at the appropriate temperature and in an organized fashion.

Others are even more flexible, with the ability to achieve refrigerated or freezing temperatures—perfect for everything from a baking sheet of cookie dough to extra pints of ice cream to a wide charcuterie tray.
