The design is simple and understated, with smooth, modern lines It’s a fine backdrop to a streamer’s gaming setup, but will also fit in just as well in a corporate, office environment. What we like

The adjustable back support

The Herman Miller x Logitech G Embody uses an adjustable spine system to create a curved back for the user.

Back support is one of the most important elements of a gaming chair and its ability to carry you through a long day of work or gaming. The Herman Miller x Logitech G Embody is designed with ergonomics at top of mind.

First is the adjustable lumbar support. A simple knob on the seat twists to increase or reduce the pressure against your spine, fitting the curve of your back. Other chairs, like the Razer Iskur, have adjustable back support, but the Embody’s is the most comfortable, to me at least. The chair also features targeted pressure distribution in the seat and back, which automatically distributes your weight and adjusts as you move. This prevents your legs from tingling or stiffening up even after hours of gameplay.

The adjustable seat depth helps with this as well, letting you put your hips as far back in the chair as possible without being constricted by your knees, and keeping your posture upright and stable. The back support is the shining star of this chair, and the number one reason to consider it.

The remaining adjustability controls

All of the controls for this chair are designed with usability in mind to improve on standard chair adjustment methods.

The raise/lower toggle, for instance, is a small switch on the right side rather than a full lever. Once you get used to that adjustment, it’s much easier to use. Likewise, the tilt-lock has three stop positions rather than the more common two, allowing a middle tilt depth which I use quite a bit.

"Exceptionally comfortable during long work and gaming sessions"

The arm adjustments were the biggest surprise, because I didn’t initially like the concept. To move them in and out, simply push on them, and they’ll click into position. It’s easy to adjust by hand, with your elbows, or even by leaning with your torso. The armrests also curve in slightly as they raise and widen as they’re lowered, which again is a feature I didn’t initially think I would like but appreciate now that I’ve used the chair more.

Durable construction

The Embody gaming chair is sturdy. It sits on pretty standard caster-style wheels, which are attached to a metal wheelbase frame that feels like it could hold a building. The frame is aluminum, and the plastic components feel thick and durable.

Even the small pieces that create the pressure areas in the back support feel sturdy and long-lasting. While the price is high, there’s no question that this is a chair that won’t need to be replaced for years and years. And that longevity is supported by the fact that the chair is covered by an extensive 12-year warranty.

What we don’t like

No neck support

The Embody lacks a neck and head rest.

Unlike many of the best gaming chairs, like the AKRacing Core Series EX, the Embody has no neck support, and the top of the chair stops at right about my shoulder height. This means that there’s nowhere to rest your head if you want to lean back.

This isn’t the end of the world—a huge number of chairs, particularly office chairs, don’t have neck support. However, I prefer a chair where I can put my head back and the Embody doesn’t give me that option. If neck support is important to you, then pass on this chair.

Value for the comfort

There’s no question that this is one of the most comfortable chairs I’ve tested, even without the neck support. It’s well-built, adjustable every which way, including some ways other chairs aren’t, comes fully assembled, and is constructed to last for years. And the 12-year warranty suggests that it will last for a very long time.

But frankly, I don’t know if the increase in value justifies the $1,600-plus price tag. I have no doubt that if you bought this chair, you’d be happy with it. But for me, I’m just as happy in the chairs that cost 3 and 4 times less.

Should you buy the Herman Miller x Logitech G Embody?

Yes, it’s a fantastic chair, but out of budget for many consumers

The Herman Miller x Logitech G Embody features an adjustable lumber, an adjustable seat depth, copper-fused cooling foam, and a 3-position tilt-lock.

There’s no question that this is a great chair, and if it were being sold for a third of the price, then I would say absolutely pick it up. But while it’s very comfortable, it’s not even my favorite chair that I’ve tested, and so I don’t see a reason to spend this much when there are numerous options that are just as good, if not better, for several times less, like the Vertagear 5800.

That said, chair comfort is incredibly personal, and I always recommend that people try chairs before they buy. The Herman Miller x Logitech G Embody is one of the best gaming chairs you can buy right now and will last over a decade, especially when supported by that 12-year warranty. If you’ve tried one, love the fit of it, and have the budget to spend, then add it to your office. I have no doubt that it will serve you well for years to come.

Hold out if you can—in the past, they have put them on sale for 20 to 25 percent off, so you may be able to get a deal.
