A few days ago, I served as the man of honor at my best friend’s wedding. After over a year of planning, it was incredible seeing my bestie’s hard work come together so beautifully. The only hiccup of the entire day? The gorgeous Theia veil that she wore kept coming off during the ceremony and I had to rush in and save the day…no less than four times! As we rush into the fall wedding season, whether you’re a wedding guest, the bride herself, or a well-meaning maid of honor like me, make sure you check (and double-check) that every aspect of your wedding look is ready to go and stays in place.
This week, I’m excited to introduce you to Jennifer Bryan, the costume designer behind film and TV projects like Better Call Saul and The Acolyte. Jennifer has shared a striking look that features a glamorous green Marni coat, along with a few words about how to put together a winning vintage ensemble.
Fit Check with Jennifer Bryan
Jennifer Bryan is a costume designer whose work has been featured in notable film and TV productions including Major Payne, Barbershop 2, and Dark Angel. She was tapped to design the costumes for the final season of Breaking Bad, which led to her appointment as the designer for all six seasons of Better Call Saul. Most recently, Bryan worked on the Disney+ Star Wars series, The Acolyte.
Jennifer, you’re glowing in this green jacket! Tell me about this look.
🧥 - I love this Marni jacket, I found it in a thrift shop while I was filming in London last year.
👢 - The khaki cropped pants and ankle boots were snagged on a weekend shopping spree in Paris. Even in Paris, you can find bargains—it’s one of my favorite things to do!
How did you discover and develop your personal style?
My personal style is rather eclectic. I wear a lot of separates. I’m on the road a lot or on a TV or movie set, so I try to balance style with practicality. Separates give me the most mileage and they extend my wardrobe.
What’s your go-to style hack?
My go-to fashion hack is my system for getting the most out of thrift shopping. The first item I look for is cool footwear. Then, I go through the racks and find a coordinating top, pants, or skirt and build an outfit from the shoe I found. Nothing’s worse than picking up a cute vintage piece only to discover that you don’t have anything in your closet to pull the look together.
